Ford's Theater - Streaming Live Tonight

I agree, mixed feelings. I wonder if it was "complete" enough? And I'm always over-critical of actors, but the African-American's song was heartfelt, and the young woman's piece on life in the White House was OK, but...Somehow, I just wanted more. I'm glad I watched, because I won't be around for the 200th, but it seemed just too "sketchy" to me.

I was happy to have seen it, and in all reality probably wouldn't have were it not for you Moonshiner. Thanks .

After, I put on the last episode of the Ken Burns documentary to absorb his take on the whole thing as well. What a terribly sad night, it is difficult to not get emotionally worked up even 150 years later. Rest in peace A. Lincoln! What a national tragedy it was to lose you in such an awful way.

I was thinking the same thing. I've been reading articles off and on all day. Been moreless depressing sort of day thinking about the event.

The crowds gather hearing the news that Lincoln has been shot

I have serious envy! Enjoy and please report you experiences!

Briefly as I am heading back out (I was not hearty enough to make it all night)...

It was extraordinarily moving. There was so much about it I liked, though the portion called "The Original Gorilla" was uncomfortable mostly because the audience was uncomfortably laughing at the criticism level at Lincoln by his critics.

I am a sucker for balcony brass and candles, and found the end especially moving. The unfinished verse of The Battle Hymn of the Republic where the soprano stopped after "In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea...." And the silent tribute to the Box had me weeping like a baby (not unexpected). Then the audience left in silence (which lasted for a few minutes at least until people started looking into the stret below at the vigil participants).

All in all, it was impressive and appropriate.

Wish I could have been there.

Thanks for the report. Wish I could have been there to see it in person. As with most live events, I am sure being there was MUCH better than watching from home.

One of my mixed emotions was some of the approaches taken. Why weave in the hangings in Minnesota? Yes, showed he 'matured' in thoughts, but still, I expected something different. ALMOST like they used the hangings to prove a point about slavery. It mentioned 'nearly 300' killed. Men, women and children settlers/farmers. And yes, natives and whites both died as a result of the whole event. BUT, on Lincoln's death anniversary you discuss that???? I expected different so came away with a mixed view.
