On the morning of July 1, at Gettysburg, the 13th Alabama of Archer's brigade attempted to flank the 7th WI of the Iron brigade. In response, 2 other regiments of the Iron Brigade flanked the 13th AL and succeeded in driving the Confederates back from where they came. Later that afternoon another flanking attack, this time by the 11th North Carolina of Pettigrew's brigade succeeded in dislodging the Iron Brigade from their position.

Below is a picture from the perspective of the flanking Confederate regiments, looking in the direction of McPherson Ridge, where the Iron Brigade was positioned. Notice the cupola of the Lutheran Seminary in the background.

Thanks for sharing this. I haven't been to Gettysburg in 20 years and photos like this badly make me want to go back!
fyi, I shared a photo of the battle flag of the 11th NC on another forum a day or so ago: https://civilwartalk.com/threads/battle-flags-at-the-north-carolina-museum-of-history.150297/
