Just a little fun for the long weekend... let's see which CWT member can come up with the most words in this first ever (I think) CW Button Scrabble Challenge...!

How many words can you make using the letters on these Civil War coat buttons...?

Union Buttons:
B1495A.JPG B2380A.JPG B2538A.JPG B3045A.JPG B5255A.JPG B0834A.JPG

Confederate Buttons:
B1300A.JPG B3826A.JPG B6167A.JPG B3015A.JPG B2712A.JPG B5647A.JPG B5557A.JPG

A few thoughts on how to play:
  • Ask that you not use an on-line word-solver tool; it's more fun to use brain power, and fine if you want to enlist kids, grandkids, spouse, in-laws etc. to help out!
  • In case the buttons aren't clear, the 14 letters available to use are as follows:
    • Union buttons: A (Artillery), C (Cavalry), D (Dragoon), I (Infantry), R (Rifleman), U & S.
    • Confederate buttons: A (Artillery), C (Cavalry), E (Engineer), I (Infantry), N (North Carolina - only using the N since already have two c's), R (Rifleman), V (Voltigeur - this one could be Union or Confederate).
  • If someone else has already posted a word that you found on your own, feel free to include it in your own list, or feel free to just add new words that others haven't already posted; we're on the honor system here.
  • Bonus point if a word has a direct Civil War connotation (the only proper nouns that are allowed must be directly tied & well known to the Civil War).
  • If you want to challenge someone's word feel free to do so, but please keep in mind this is just for fun... Merrian-Webster Scrabble dictionary is the final arbiter, & English words only (sorry @FarawayFriend ).
  • Finally, I realize there are other buttons (state, militia, etc.) with different letters, but since these seem to be some of the more common buttons let's stick with them; there are over 600 possible words with these 14 letters!
Have fun... and Happy Labor Day Weekend to all friends here on CWT!!!

Very impressive!!

Well... @JOHN42768 , I guess by default of being the only entry, (but by every standard an outstanding entry at that!), I can declare you the winner of the First Ever (and probably the last ever - I know, it takes a lot of mental effort) Labor Day CW Button Scrabble Challenge!!

Congratulations John42768!!!  I hope other members of CWT will join me in saying Job Well Done...!

I guess it's still not too late if others want to add to John's fine and outstanding effort if you see words that he hasn't already captured, but here's three Huzzah's to John!!!
