So I went ahead and did it. I caught the last slot on an incredible tour happening in a few months. To say that I am excited is an understatement. I've always felt an attachment to this era, this war, our history and I will probably sob, gush and gape my way through. And if I happen to come across a general or two, well.....all bets are off, although accosting is not my way, I might have to restrain myself, especially if it's Stonewall, Lee, Stuart or Grant to name a few! I am ashamed to say I have never been to our capital and by far, having the ability to visit historic sites is thrilling me like a kid on Christmas morning. Being able to walk the battlefields and relive history is a dream. If anyone has done the same, please send some tips and good wishes that I can and will hold my **** together:lee::grant::frantic:

Awesome! Get used to that feeling. Reading your post was like reading my mind. I still have that exuberant and ecstatic energy every time I visit any type of ACW site or battlefield. Visiting our history and standing in the spots our forefathers once stood and fell truly fascinates me. Visiting and touring remind me of the potato chip company's ad slogan "you can't stop at just one" thank you for posting. Be sure to update us and tell us all about your trip

Welcome @alikat . Where are you going?

I'm visiting both capitals. Richmond and D.C. I have some free time in the afternoon in Richmond so I'm thinking about the sedgeway tour through some part which I cannot recall right now.

Not in any particular order,
Washington D.C. - National Mall-Lincoln Memorial
National Museum of American History
Shenandoah Valley, Harpers Ferry
Antietam
Bull Run-Manassas Battles
Gettysburg, Jenny Wade house, lunch and tour of the Dobbin House, National Cemetary and Lincoln's Gettysburg Address
Richmond, Battle of The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House and Chancellorsville
Petersburg and The Confederate White House
Appotomax Court House
Free time in Washington, Arlington and changing of the guard

Be still my heart just thinking about it. Thanks again for the well wishes.

I do have full respect for both militaries, their soldiers, their leaders, their sacrifices
and consider this adventure an honor to be a part of.

It's optional to do the "Gettysburg Ghost Tour". Am I the only one who finds it distasteful? Or should I go? I guess I'll figure it out. A little background. While I was in Lancaster, PA I dreamt that the Army of the Potomac was on my bed and I awoke to what I thought was my husband making coffee in the very early morning, similar to the rattling of a camp site preparing noisy coffee prep, metal on metal. I even thought I smelled it perking.Well, to my shock the coffee was not made. And no, this is not the first time I've had similar experiences. Spiritual much? Yes very. I welcome them often!!!

How long is this tour? It's an awful lot to see.... If this is only a week-long tour, what you'll basically be doing is getting a whirlwind tour that will introduce you to the high points, whet your appetite for more, and help you prioritize which places you want to come back to for a longer visit when you can really take your time, explore the details, and soak in the history of a particular place.

Agree with you Kansas! It's a nine day tour and yes, I sense a whirlwind....an introduction of sorts which will open me up to many more adventures for sure.

Where are the start and end points of the tour?

9 days should be enough time. You'll want home cooking and your own bed by then anyway.

Where are the start and end points of the tour?

The tour begins in Washington, head south and then concludes back in Washington. Mid September. Four hotels but hell, I'm like a road runner kinda' gal, the more action the better but check back with me on that when I get home. I survived a two week mind blowing northern Italy vacation/tour/whirlwind with my son who is as equally curious about battlefields, architecture, history and adventure as I am. Note: Barely survived:running:

This sounds exciting and wonderful! So much to see and do. Hope you enjoy every minute.
I loved your own little 'ghost story' btw...the ghost tour might be a little hard to resist when you get there ;)
