I find this to be a very interesting photograph for a number of reasons other than the veterans you see surrounding their monument. First, the photograph was taken on October 20, 1886 at the dedication of the first monument to the 149th Pa. along the Chambersburg Pike. The monument may not look familiar because just two years later, the buck tail monument we see today replaced the one you see here. The original monument can still be seen today along Hancock Avenue near the Gibbon witness tree. That represents their position on July 3rd. What I find most interesting about the image is the condition of the McPherson barn as it appeared just 23 years after the battle. I will include a similar modern street view for comparison.
