Well this sounds like an interesting story !
Perhaps one day, ya'll can tell us about the cannon at the Hampton Inn ?
Hahahahaha. You're so funny.

And we know where your mind is......right in the gutter.
You'll have to wait until after this weekend to see how it turns out, but to prevent anyone from getting the wrong idea....
@ucvrelics.com is bringing the "Lost Cause" to the CWT Chickamauga event this weekend. We wanted to have it in the lobby.....you know, like a welcome ornament for our group - with the sign that says "Welcome CivilWarTalk."
From what I understand, it's not a typical practice of the Hampton Inn to have cannons in their lobby.

So, I was 'elected' to call the hotel and obtain permission for the cannon to be in the lobby. So I called, <several times>, and met with no little resitance. Eventually, I was transferred to the assistant manager. I told the story <again> and met with hesitancy (which BTW was a huge improvement over the previous resistance.) I told him it was "completely safe" - securely attached to the caisson, no danger of any little children knocking it over, etc. Of course, I didnt really know any of these things.

<Turns out I was right>
He hesitated again......and then I added, "
It's a replica cannon so no danger of anyone accidentally firing it in the lobby." And I chuckled. And he chuckled. And said ok. So while I may have IMPLIED it, I didn't actually SAY it is a non-firing replica. And we certainly don't want him, or anyone else at the Hampton Inn to know that it is actually a real, live firing

at least until
after this weekend.

And just for the record,
@bdtex can confirm that all this is really true.

He is involved in the cannon at the Hampton Inn fiasco too.
