Used to be, when you pulled up a cemetery's FindAGrave page there was a link at the bottom for the city and county that the cemetery is located in. You could quickly pull up a list of all cemeteries in that city and a list of all cemeteries in that county. Those links are gone. I hope it's temporary but I fear it's not. That change is not helpful. Now it looks like this, for example, at the bottom of the page:

  1. Cemeteries
  2. Region
  3. Kimball Cemetery

No city or county link. Kimball Cemetery is in Kopperl, Bosque County, Texas. I'm feeling the need to add a little information to my notes when I scroll through the burials on a cemetery FindAGrave page and to get as much research done as I can as soon as possible. I fear I'll have to rely more on Ancestry in the future and less on FindAGrave. I know they are connected but FindAGrave is where I go first. I'm thinking I may be forced to promote Ancestry and demote FindAGrave in the future.

I hadn't noticed that change yet but they've just implemented a lot of changes regarding editing and what information can now be displayed on a memorial. Some aren't happy about some of that, either. You can always provide them some feedback; ya never know.
I'm not a webmaster or IT guy. I don't know how hard or costly it is to create or maintain those links. It's their show and I've stopped trying to understand what motivates every change. FindAGrave is still very useful and helpful. Not so sure that will be the case in the future for historical purposes.

What I'm getting is a short list of nearby cemeteries.

There is still a way to get all the cemeteries in a county or area, though it's clunkier than before. At the bottom of any cemetery homepage you will see:

Cemeteries > Region > Name of Cemetery

If you click Region it will take you to a list of the regions of the world; when you choose USA you get a list of states, then once you've chosen a state, counties.

I clicked through to Bell County, Texas and got a list of 78 cemeteries, listed alphabetically.

Does that help?

I checked out several of my Memorials and their cemeteries. Do like when you click on cemetery, directions come up for mine and list of nearby cemeteries. I will have to keep researching. Findagrave has always been one of my first places to look.

Ancestry earned my ire when they acquired RootsWeb.com and practically shut it down. Fold3 and now FindAGrave are also harder for me to use because of changes they have made to their search function. To quote my grandfather, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Don't get me started about the removal of Rootsweb pages. When Ancestry acquired the sites they promised, PROMISED, to leave the site intact in keeping with the original philosophy of free genealogy information on the Internet. As of 1 May, that ceased when most of the pages were removed. Of course, the pages they removed were the type that Ancestry can make money from, i.e. census records, court records, cemetery surveys, even Bible records, all of which devoted volunteers submitted.

There is a way, but I warn you that it's not easy, to view the old pages. All the pages are archived via waybackmachine at web.archive.org.
I'll try to make it as painless as possible for you. It took me hours to understand how to locate a link and to find a main link, but here it is.

Go to the website and in the "Search" box paste this URL:
Scroll down to select the state.
PLEASE NOTE that the "search" feature will not work, or it didn't the last time I tried which was a year or so ago. But, at least the pages are there!

OR, you may be able to simply click the following link and it will take you to the site. I'm not sure which current browsers allow this to work properly.

The above link is to a 2003 snapshot of the website. Notice at the top of the page in the archive.org menu you will see the current date, 2003, that you are viewing. You can select a different year if you like. I chose 2003 because it should not have any links to ancestry. I THINK it was about 2006 that ancestry began managing the site and began replacing some of the links with their paid links.

Also, if you have a page bookmarked in your browser you can simply copy and paste the bookmark into the web.archive.org website "Search" and it should bring up the page. BUT, you may receive an error message that the page is no longer available (because ancestry took it offline). In this case, simply select a date from, say, 2020 and try again. I hope that makes sense.

Hope this helps you.

I've been finding Confederate service records on Fold 3 and that site interfaces fairly easy with allowing found documents to be added to an Ancestry family members profile. Same with Find A Grave. So far so good for what I've been working on lately. Maybe they are just working out some kinks still left with their recent changes. Thanks @bdtex for the heads up
