As I have been reseaching my Confederate ancestry, I have found some stories about my Granfathers who served and fought in the war, (will post soon) however I have hit a roadbloack, I have the Name and Regiment also the Brief Sketch there at home but no other information other than the fact he like Grandpa Henry May Warren survived !
His name is...
James Anderson (J. A.) Baughcom (Served in the War Between the States (Civil War) as a Confederate Private in the Fifty-Sixth Regiment, Company C)
Birth: Feb. 28, 1832
Death: Feb. 4, 1887
Harnett County,
North Carolina, USA

Here are a few records from the files of James Anderson (J. A.) Baughcom ( also Beaughcom) age 29. They are a little hard to read so I edited them to darken a little.

He was present for most of the roll calls. Once he was detached for special duty. He was sick in the Hospital at Petersburg in June 1864. I'm not familiar with the last page that I uploaded that says he appears on a Roll of Honor in 1862. Maybe someone can explain that.

I tried to download these documents and there does not seem to be a way that I can find.

No problem. It is easy to look up soldier's records. The problem is the Confederates didnt have a lot of records. Many searches find fewer records than Baughcom's files. If there are several cards on file, they may only tell you that he was present in the company during this time.
You should be able to download them. Click on one thumbnail image and it will expand into a new window. You should be able to download it then.

I've looked into the North Carolina 'Roll of Honor' and this is what I found: In 1862, the NC state legislature passed a law establishing a Roll of Honor to recognize individual soldiers (neither NC nor CSA ever awarded medals in the way the Union did) and directed the Adjutant General of the state to maintain the Roll. Officers of the individual NC units were to send in letters naming soldiers in their own units to the Roll. This was apparently done in a spotty fashion, with some units taking it very seriously while others seemed to ignore it. So, to be on the Roll of Honor is akin to having received a medal for exceptional service.
