Collection Field gear for Frank N

Hey everyone,

Got to sharing canteens and @FrankN likes enlisted gear so here are some items the soldiers would have on them from my collection.

That 64 box and knapsack are nice! Belts and belt plates leave me uneasy. I'll dive in one day I'm sure

Thanks for sharing your collection! Excellent looking gear! Cool that you have the cap box with the wool and vent pick! Are those pistol balls in the other cap box?
The fork, spoon and knife combo is a nice piece. They're out there but I don't see that many of them. Great looking leather and belt plates! The knapsack looks unissued?
I've been enjoying slowly adding to my collection of field gear. A tin plate and issue cup may be something that I'll keep an eye out for.

I thought you might enjoy some pieces.
That cap box is completely unissued. That's the original wool and vent pick still in its designated holder. The other one I shared does have pistol balls inside. I've had it for many years and that's the way I bought it. The wool was removed so most likely it was issued and used.

The utensil sets are pretty neat what I didn't photo was the inside of it. The pieces slide apart and are both marked in Roman numerals for the number 7 if I recall. Same for the benchmark on belt plates . The maker is usually found on the bottom of the fork, knife or bottom of the utensil.

This particular knapsack is most likely unissued. I have others but this one is free of holes and has all its buckles. The maker stamp is R Valentine and if I can remember dated 1864 on the shoulder strap.

Uniondb currently has a mess plate if you're interested and make sure for an issued cup that it has a flat bottom and is around 4 inches tall. It should have two wires clamped around the lip

I plan on making another post about identifying plates and buckles and belts. I'll mention you in it so you'll see. Maybe it might help fill in some unanswered questions you have about them. There are different widths and leathers used. Some have a material loop and others the brass C clamp fastener. Some are stamped and others not but I'll go through it in that post.
