Feldmutze?

Some Civil War militia companies appear to have worn a cap based on the German styled peak less Feldmutze cap.This is cut from a photograph in old Military Images Magazine. the photograph was taken in the St. Louis area. this cap could also be a locally made copy of the British lancer cap. I was wondering if anyone had any information on this type of headgear.

From the form I´d say it looks more like a sailor cap, especially with the different-collored band.
