February is here already. The word February comes from the Latin word februa. It means "to cleanse". The month was named for the Roman Februalia, which means a monthlong festival of purification and atonement.

February has several days to celebrate, including Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, Lincoln's Birthday, Feb. 12, Valentine's Day, Feb. 14 and George Washington's Birthday, Feb. 22. There are several foods associated with these days and events.

February is the month of Canned Foods, Chocolate Lovers, Cherries , Grapefruits and hot breakfasts.

Hope many add recipes and history on these foods and the days that are celebrated this month.

Happy cooking!

Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is Feb. 16. This another time for different foods and beverages.

Ash Wednesday is on Feb. 17. Lent is the 47 days before Easter. There are many great Lenten Foods that can be added.
