Euchre was a popular card game during the Civil War. Soldiers played it for money. When I was in high school it extremely popular at school. We played Euchre at lunch and during stydy hall. We had Euchre tournaments. I had some skill at the game.

I have played perhaps a half dozen versions of the game. The most common verson around here is "American Euchre". This made me wonder what was the most common version solders played during the Civil War?
