Came upon this talk by Edward Ayers at University of Virginia. It's an unflinching look at both the defeated white South and the radical Republicans, taking both to task at different points. He looks at our own reconstruction and compares it to the foreign reconstructions the U.S. has orchestrated after wars since then.
