For whatever reason, I'm under the impression that there was wide spread enthusiasm in the South for going to war and that droves of men eagerly enlisted in the Confederate Army. Of course, like most Americans, I've gotten most of my sense of history from Hollywood, so I would not be in the least bit surprised to find out my supposition is largely unfounded.
What about the North? In my mind, there was far less support for going to war and therefore fewer willing recruits.
How close or far am I from the truth?
