One of my favorite Gettysburg painting/photograph comparisons is this Bradley Schmehl painting, Devil's Den which depicts the scene as the 17 Georgia of Benning's Brigade struggles through the Den while taking fire from Little Round Top on their right front and Houck's Ridge to their left. Fallen Union men from the 4th Maine are seen scattered among the rocks.
