Most Civil War artists research their subject extensively and try to present an accurate representation of specific actions during the battle. Devil's Den, by Bradley Schmehl, shown below, is a great example. We see the 17th Georgia fighting through the Den while under fire from Little Round Top to their right, Houck's Ridge to their left, and taking canister fire from Smith's guns in the Valley of Death to their front. Fallen Union soldiers from the 4th Maine are seen in front of the line. My now photo shows how little has changed in the critical area of the battlefield over the last 152 years.
