Detecting tomorrow

Going to the Flint River tomorrow by Jonesboro to do some detecting. The area is very close to where the Confederate line was just west of Jonesboro. The exact area is all subdivisions now but just to the west is wooded along the river. Prolly will just find only vagrant junk but you never know. Still a fun way to spend a Saturday morning.

I will unless it is just junk. I have been to several areas around here where interesting stuff should have been found. Mostly what I found was raging cases of Poison Ivy.

I found theses 4 bullets. They appear to be made of lead. Don't know if they are recent or old. These were found where a Confederate line was just west of Jonesboro.... on the east side of the Flint River. All four are 3/4" long and 11/16" diameter. If anyone can help Id them that would be awesome. The one in the right appears to me to be a little different than the other three.

I've always wanted to go detecting. Sounds like fun, and I don't mind digging in the dirt.

It is, the issue here is there are no open fields any longer in my area. It is all very wooded, briar filled and swampy. Of the 20 times I have been out this is the first time I have found something I think is interesting.

The band with the straight verticle lines is known as a cannelure and is designed to grip the bullet in the neck of a cartridge case. The presence of a cannelure would suggest a post-Civil War bullet. The fired bullets with the cannelures on them appears to possibly be from a standard 158 grain lead 38 Special round.

Wow! I'm impressed! How post-CW are you talking about?
