UPDATE: here is the link to what the Demopolis Mayor has said will be be done concerning the CS monument, and what I have heard thru the ladies at the beauty parlor here, "there will be a CS monument on that spot" the mayor said the only thing that could not be repaired was his gun. Here are before and after. I think its going to cost a lot of money!!!! broke hat, broke legs and broke gun.

Can't they get it from the insurance of the guy who wrecked it?

Doesn't work that way. City carries insurance on both the car and the the officer driving it if he has an MVA on duty that insurance covers what has to be paid, provided he is not found willfully negligent , and it cannot be used against for increasing his own personal MV insurance rate for his POV. If it is Line of Duty with minimal or no fault of the officer then the city has to eat it.

He was on duty in a patrol car and it has been confirmed by the Chief that he fell asleep at the wheel.

Then it's either a state charge of reckless or perhaps impaired driving, or maybe departmental sanctions, depending on a myraid of things. But short of chemical impairment or gross negligence since he was on duty , they'll probably have to eat it.

We really don't care who has to eat it (except us SCV, UDC)

Looks like a dead soldier resting in repose after the accident. I initially wondered if a vandal did that on purpose!
