I came across this today on Pinterest. I had never seen it before. Just wondering if anyone can list all the signatories...I'm finding a couple of them hard to read. Thanks in advance.

I can't read 2 of the names, but the others are all Lee's staff officers, Charles Marshall, Walter Taylor, Charles Venable and Giles Cooke. Find a list of Lee's staff officers and the other 2 are likely on it.

It's amazing to me that anyone was able to get this document imprinted with the location and date right on the spot. Perhaps those few lines were imprinted later. Does anyone know?

Interesting question. Maybe someone here will have the answer. There are no details of the terms of surrender, either. I'm guessing there must be more documentation in relation to that, which was signed on the day as well. I'd like to see that if it's still in existence.

I'm pretty sure it's their parole document, and the details of the surrender were all on a separate document. These parole forms could have been printed by the thousands in advance, but the little date and location block is printed, too, and that's what makes me so curious.

Maybe I need to change the heading of this thread. Hopefully a mod will step in if that's the case...I've had trouble changing one of these before. Thanks for your input @Patrick H .
