It has been awhile since I watched this miniseries and I only watched the episodes that dealt with Grant's background and early life and the Civil War but I think it wasn't overly politically correct compared to some of the more recent things I've seen and read lately dealing with the Civil War and other American historical subjects. It does do well in portraying U.S. Grant as a man of strong will and determination who overcame many setbacks in his life to achieve the status he has earned as one of America's great generals and leaders during the Civil War period. It does get overdramatic in some of its scenes (contrary to U.S. Grant's low key, straight forward personality in real life) but it tells his story fairly well.
I'd wish they filmed that in America. They always film in south America, they did the same thing the story of us. When President Obama did the intro for it. There was a program as well by Ridley Scott that was about Gettysburg on little round top. Pretty bad if you ask me.

The Ridley Scott Gettysburg was filmed in South Africa . The buildings used in the film don't look anything like what was in Pennsylvania. Not a great film and a big disappointment.

It looked cool when I watched the trailer but then I was like no way that doesn't look anything like it can't believe that he go that low and film it in South America for a Gettysburg when they could have done it in Adams county. I'd wish people let American company's choose to film our own history on our own soil not in other country's that don't look like it either.
I thought the Grant miniseries was very well done. I learned later that L. DeCaprio produced it and was amazed that it wasn't more political. I taped it and watch it, or parts of it, regularly. I give it a thumbs up.
