Dead Confederates Blog

OH....oops....I thought CivilWarTalk had a page with links to different blogs and that's what I was looking for.

Haha...I've visited his blog before. I just don't always keep track of who writes what blog. His and Pat's are really the only ones I've read and associate with posters here.

Anyway...sorry for the confusing there.

I'm not much into blogs, actually. Too addicted to turning pages by hand. I just hang out here for entertainment and conversation. :smile coffee:
I'm not either really. Blogs, for me anyway, need to have a Facebook feed to alert me to a new post and whether or not I find it interesting enough to read. I don't go blog hopping.

Pat actually does a really nice job with linking his blog to Facebook notifications.

Notice that the author is not here defending his blog? He won't, because that would be as silly as the attacks.

The attacks are running both ways. I found Andy Hall's blog before I found this Forum. I learned a lot from it. I'm in the middle of his book on blockade running off of Galveston and I'm enjoying it. I appreciate everyone's wanting to support him.

But, it saddens me to see a thread in this space that looks a lot like an attempt to ridicule a new member whose views are unpopular. I won't critique his views of anyone's blog (and I don't care what they are), but I'll agree with you on one thing:

I'll be very surprised to see Andy Hall take part in any of this.

Drew, you're a very nice person. But unpopular isn't how I would characterize those views. Downright rude, I'd say. I tried defending, then reasoning, and now I'm done. It's considered polite to respond to those who are nice to you on a forum. You do. But when you start ignoring folks, particularly someone who is trying to help you....you deserve what you get. I'm guessing the shelf life here is limited.

I would add an addendum to your statement. The statements and beliefs are not even factually correct and the poster had shown an unwillingness to reconsider those positions when they are shown to be incorrect.

Thank you. I saw some of it, but not all of it. I'm not a moderator, obviously. If there's a smidgen of contribution that even an unpopular poster can offer, let's please take it? Your rules.

BTW, it was goofing around Andy Hall's blog that I found this Forum. If (and when) I get in trouble again, it's his fault, "Sez I." Are we having fun yet?

You show me the contribution, and I'll applaud. Haven't seen any yet. Oh, and by the way......those aren't my rules. I work for these folks. Because of my secret desire for more abuse after I teach all day.

I won't say ridicule, and I won't join in the monkey pile, but now and then, without regularity, someone gains the enmity of a great deal of the active posters. I did say without regularity, but it always, occasionally happens.

Nate kindly counselled and it didn't take. All she can do now is make sure it doesn't get too mean.

Perhaps some learning will occur. Seems like some of it is emerging with reference to the Crater thread and Confederate counter-mining there.

Eg., I was aware of the Confederate listening holes. I was not aware of the mines meant to be charged. Larn somethin' new everday.

Meanwhile, attacking a member's blog is not something we do. Disagree with it by commenting on the blog. Not here. Snipers on a battlefield are something to be accepted. This is not a battlefield. It is a classroom.
