Can anyone read the date on this $5 bill from the Farmers & Exchange Bank of Charleston SC? It looks like 27 August (not sure) but I can't read the year.

Anyone?

Agree on day & month. Might the year be 1823?

May we see the president's full name? Perhaps a time range can be reached.

Having looked up the bank, I'm going to revise my guess. The bank seems to have been established in 1854 and is listed as terminated in-or-after 1871. Since the words "New York" appear, I'm now guessing that it was before the outbreak of the ACW, therefore sometime between 1854 and 1861. There are several other notes from this bank shown https://www.google.com/search?q=not...AIGwgIFEAAYgASYAwCIBgGSBwExoAfhAQ&sclient=img

Since you can see the entire note, do any of there seem likely?

Looking on the Internet, looks like the bank was established in 1853. Comparing this note to images of others on the Internet, best guess is the date is 27 August 1853.

I can't read the year.
This bank began operating in 1853 and was destroyed by Union troops during the CW.

William M. Martin, the signatory shown on the bill, was President of the bank in the period, 1853 - 1860.

If the last digit of the year displayed on the bill is accepted as '3', then believe the year must be '1853'.
