Daniel Lewis 37th Mass. Wounded At Gettysburg

I've come across a few of these service records, but this soldier had a interesting history, so I picked it up. It was also interesting that it is noted he presented this to his wife. The wood backing on the frame was crumbling, but I hope to have this restored someday.

Note: Daniel Lewis was born July 4th 1835 and died at age 92, 1927

It reads:

Daniel Lewis

Enlisted in the U.S. service July 15th 62 as private under Capt. Archibald Hopkins in
Co. E 37" Regt., Mass, Vol, Inft. The Regt. under command of Col. Edwards left the
state Sept. 7" 62 and took transportation for Washington where they arrived Sept. 9th
and went into camp Chase on Arlington Heights. Was assigned to Briggs' Brig
Casey's Div. of Reserves and participated in the following battles:-
Fredericksburg, Va, Dec 11-15" 62. Salem Church Va., May 3" 63, Gettysburg, Pa
July 1-3" 63; Was wounded at Gettysburg. Pa. July 2" 63 by gunshot in right hand
which caused the loss of his thumb. Was confined in hospitals at Fort Schuyler N.Y.
and Providence, R.I. where he remained, after recovering from wounds, doing hospital
duty until honorably discharged July 12" 1865
