The Civil War Trust has a track chart of the action between Monitor and Virginia on March 9, 1862, here:

http://www.civilwar.org/battlefields/hampton-roads/maps/hampton-roads-march-9-1862.html

I don't recall seeing a track chart of this action, or a sufficiently detailed written account from which one might be reconstructed. Any ideas as to the source material?

Very interesting.

New to me as well, though it appears plausible; I think I'd place this in the category of "reasonable reconstruction of events."

No, I think "plausible" is correct, but when you start putting positions on a map with a scale it takes on a certain element of authority. I've tried this sort of thing myself -- though with simpler actions -- and it's a dicey thing to attempt.
