Was reconstructing some of my files today (or attempting to anyways) and came across some notes about Lt North's orders, and some questions that were written down.

Mallory had delt with navy issues before the war,,,,,,how could he believe that Fr would sell the Gloire, or even build su ch a large capital ship as this. (What a minuet.....which ship of this class rotted out after only a fed years? They could have sold it to the south and made some bucks.....right........).

Was this the largest ship that the Confederate Navy Dept tried to commission? How about proposed?

In the North several new large ironclads were started..........and that did not include the two sisters build ing by Webb in NYS. At any point did the south consider to start build ing coastal ironclads again after the first 7 (should say 8, Alantia seemed to be a coastal ironclad). Have to say after Norfolk fell.

And seeking of ironclads this is for rebel-at-sea.

Why back when....you showed us a plan of what seemed to be a attempt to armor a SW steamship. Those two old Bombay Bums......... anyways do not know if you found this info but their names were Punjaub & Assaye.

Gloire was seasoned and lasted about 20 years. Her two sisters, Normandie and Invincible were not and lasted only ten years, both being scrapped in 1871-1872.

Had the Mississippi been constructed to the original plan before Porter got at them, the CSN could have been on it's way to a Gloire type ironclad.
