I like this one, you can see what seems to be another ship out there, and what seems to be her small boat, with men on it.

I wish some of our beloved photo specialist could tackle this one, see about blowing it up a bit. It would be interesting to see a bit more detail on these photos, but I know that might not be possible.

Thanks for sharing JPK. This is the first picture of Naval carnage I have seen!

Rats, the link is down for maintenance, I'd like to see a better pic also. Thought that was what I would have referred to as a tugboat, thank you! I'm not conversant enough with what was around in the 1860's to have identified it.

I can't find the action during which she was sunk. The search becomes impeded by ' Drury's Bluff ' spellings ( also Drewry's on-line, don't know which is correct now! ). There's also a Confederate Lt. named WT Drury to further confuse matters. Wish we knew what the men were doing out there- taking off equipment, trying to clear the wreck? Suppose it's useless to conjecture, unless the tug is a clue and they were possibly getting ready to tow the wreck clear of traffic.

Looks like a Union salvage crew, complete with barge.

According to Silverstone, Drewry was destroyed by two hits from artillery fire in Trent's Reach, James River, 24 January 1865.
