CSR Request: Thomas Turner

Thank you. The faint handwriting is difficult. Looks like he became Assistant Surgeon in September rather than December 1862 - just in time for Perryville rather than shortly before Stones River.

Page 7 indicates he was "Assistant Surgeon to Dr. Hardee {?} {?} 17 Sep 1862" (I can't read the two? words between Hardee's name and the date.

Page 8 says he was "relieved from duty in his regiment" by order of Gen. Bragg but then mentions him being detailed as the 3rd Florida's Assistant Surgeon by Brigade Surgeon H. Humphrey (last name is particularly difficult to read). Does this mean Bragg dismissed him from the army? Or was this a formality meaning he was being permanently relieved of duty infantryman and permanently assigned as Assistant Surgeon? (Since a regiment's medical department is independent from the individual infantry companies?) Assuming the latter, are there separate service records for the service of Confederate medical personnel?

I can't read those two words either - this guy needed a better pen! I read the notes on page 8 as his being reassigned out of company B to Co H. But the Florida roster shows him being transferred to "S" by which I think they mean F&S. The Field and Staff card lists all the various surgeons and Turner is not listed there. The roster does show a rank change from private to asst surgeon on 12 December, 1862.
