CS Cap Boxes

About 15 years ago an example of the Macon Arsenal cap box was found in Cleveland, Tennessee. It ended up in the Georgia Archives. At the time, it was the first one of those found and proved that leather goods items were, in fact, make by the Macon Arsenal. I hope the one shown above is an additional one of those.

I passed this up today. The i side and wool seems too new? It went for $950. Thoughts on interior condition?

View attachment 561151950 is usually what an unmarked cs pouch goes for. The arsenal marked ones are significantly higher
Yeah I have never bought any CS stuff yet but I have also seen some insanely well priced items in auctions as well so I really had nothing to compare it to except retail. I didn't bid because I thought the interior leather looked too new and the wool looked new as well. @Package4 besides what i pointed out, what else did you see to say it was suspicious?

The inking of Copperhead Arsenal 1862 just for starters.

Im glad you followed your instincts on that one. There are so many auction houses that just don't have properly trained staff. Unfortunately a huge amount of confederate pieces are not authentic. If you want top quality confederate pieces I would suggest Oldsouthantiques.com the prices are just as long as a phone number sometimes but you can see the construction of many pieces and get a sense of what the real ones look like for certain.

Yeah, I did see that for sure and it almost looks like it says 1962. Maybe I'm wrong.

Speaking of cap boxes, just putting a mannequin back together and looked at the box on my display. I then realized there's no markings. Here's some close up photos. Wondering what everyone thinks as far as side and possible manufacturer.
