About 1970 it was fashionable for many people to paint rusty old Civil War cannonballs
and shells with black anti-rust paint. This is a 12 LB. cannonball with the CS brass fuze holder
that was never unloaded and I plan to have it unloaded and then I will remove the old paint.
This came from an antique auction from years ago, and it was probably one of the few things
in the auction really a hundred years old! There is a side loader hole and (lead?) cover there
although it is hard to see or feel.

Interesting... Usually when people painted them they normally didn't include painting over the copper fuse holder and side lead plug.. which would make this one a Case Shot. I would recommend having this one properly disarmed before doing anything else with it..
