W Beazer Welcome Here. Here is the spot where one [lies one] who was not satisified with leaving other people alone.
This Yankee said he belonged to the 5th Iowa Regt.

Do you recall what account you were reading? The 5th Iowa was in the same brigade as the 59th Indiana. They were the only two regiments in the brigade. I had a relative in the 59th Indiana that was killed there. He died at the regimental hospital on March 7, 1862. Trying to determine when he was wounded.

Looks like from March 4th action on northern edge of New Madrid city or suburbs
Companies from both regiments were involved in another skirmish on March 6. That report notes one man from the 59th Ind. was killed. Although the list of Union deaths lists his death as March 7 at the hospital from gunshot wound.
The report from the brigade commander for March 4 lists 1 killed from 5th Iowa.
I may have that book. I'll have to dig it out and take another look.
Thank you for the info and quick response!

Here is a photo of his stone in the family cemetery in Indiana. What I've never been able to determine is if this is a cenotaph or if he was brought home and buried. Still searching for that information.
