I just picked this up.It is the commission of Col. Kenner Garrard, 146th New York Volunteers. The regiment has many battle honors and was present at Gettysburg on Little Round Top on day two with the 140th ( Col. O'Rourke who was KIA along with Col. Vincent) as part of Gen. Weeds brigade. They also took heavy losses at The Wilderness and fought at Fredricksburg. What is rea

lly cool is that they were recruited down the road from me in Rome, NY.

Col. Garrard picked up Brig. Gen and was Chief of the Cavalry Bureau. He then was assigned to lead the 2nd Cavalry Division in the Army of the Cumberland during the Atlanta campaign and saw action at Nashville after which he made Maj. Gen at the assault at Mobile Bay.
 
I imagine that those are just studio props and not the weapons that they were issued, the second from the left is a Sharp's Rifle with a sword bayonet.

There's a book called " Campaigns of the 146th New York Volunteers" which is my next read after I finish "Upton's Regulars, The history of the 121st New York Volunteers" that were recruited from my hometown. It's interesting that the 121st was held in reserve to the right of the 146th on Little Round Top.
