Our esteemed fellow member @FarawayFriend knows that my wife is a master baker and we have discussed German cooking by PM on many occasions.she sent my wife a gift of a German Cookbook titled "Dr.Oetker German Baking Today".this cookbook book has about 200 recipes of German and Viennese cakes and pastries.upon receiving the the cookbook I immediately sent Andrea a PM that I hate her because I will be gain at least 25lbs.
I PMed Donna about the book and she hoped I could post the recipes.I am trying to find as many as I can without violating any copyright laws and I have found a couple so far which I shall post.
This first one is called "Small Erdbeertraum" which is similar to a cheesecake.
There are some conversions that you will need and they are:
Temp..180°C. =350°F
160°C. = 325°F for a convection oven.
25gm. = 1oz.
175gm.= 6oz.
200gm.= 8oz.
250gm.= 9oz.
500gm.=18oz.
They use a product called Quark which is a German Yogurt,some Target stores carry it but you can sub plain Greek yougurt.
The Web address may come up in German but my tablet translated it to English.
Dr. Oetker is a German Company that makes bakery products and some are available here and on Amazon.

If the link does not open all the way click on recipe search and it will show you it.

Aw, shucks, Mitch, you should have mentioned why I sent that cookbook. It is a weak balance for a number of magazines and a book I would have had no chance to get in Germany. So it was thought as a thank you for sending me these items and as @nitrofd is the great guy we all know him to be, he chose nothing for himself but something his wife would be pleased with.

As for Quark, I have to say, no, it is not yogurt. It is more like a very, very lean cream cheese.
If I'd live in the States where no Quark is to be had I'd try a fat reduced cream cheese instead. Some take cottage cheese, but I find it too "grainy". Quark is smooth. Normally one should avoid the fat reduced "light" products as the fat is often substituted by some kind of carbohydrates. But I think in this case it is safe to do it. The lack of fat makes it only more similar to our Quark.

Erdbeertraum is Strawberry Dream, btw.
Enjoy a little Germany while eating it.

While trying to find another recipe I could I found one for Donauwellen(Danube Wave Cakes). I found it on a web site called "The Bavarian Kitchen". This site has recipes for great German dishes like Sauerbraten,Jagerschitzel, and a recipe that my wife will make next week which I love but haven't had in years, called " Rouladen".
The link that I will post is to the cake,but if you go to home then search the recipes for meats veggies,desert and everything else you will love to try.

I will post a recipe for a cake called a Frankfurt Crown which is made from simple sponge cake in a round pan like a bundt pan but with no flutes.it looks delicious and very easy to make.
Tomorrow we have to make a trip to Trader Joe's to buy some Morelo Cherries as we have found a bottle of Kirschwasser so we can make real "Black Forrest Cake".

Frankfurt Crown was my favorite cake when I was a child. My Granny did the best one I ever had. And because I could never hope to do something similarly yummy I never tried it myself

Here is a picture of a Frankfurt Crown from wikipedia.

Aw, that one looks like my Grandma's!! (Even the plate it sits on looks like my Grandma's!)
I can almost feel it melting in my mouth, that mix from tart blackcurrant and sweet buttercream ...
One million calories, but worth every pound gained, LOL!!

That cake looks delicious. Always enjoyed Black Forrest Cake. One of best pieces we ever had was at a German Restaurant in Ashville, N.C. many years ago. I don't remember name of restaurant, but wish I did.

The Bavatian Restaurant & Biergarten
Black Forest Restaurant
Both in Asheville.
