How in the name of all that is holy does one lace yourself in, without a helper? And how tight do I need to wear this sucker? I need to draw in big breaths to sing. And yes, I did just add a corset to my ensemble, why do you ask?

Seriously, wore a borrowed one, until I can get mine made. Made a huge difference in the profile. Who'd have thunk it? Other than every reenactor out there...:bounce:

Maybe all that swooning we hear about could have been prevented? Sounds dicey, doesn't it? If you have to draw in big breaths to sing, would have to think our ancestors fell over on a regular basis, wearing those things.

Put a busk in it! :) My first one only had laces in the back and I never even attempted lacing myself in. My new one has a busk. I'm able to put it on and then tighten it by myself.

Tight enough that it doesn't slew around...it varies. You'll find the right tightness with the wearing. (With my old corset, I knew 'exactly' when it was tight enough. I'm still finding the sweet spot in my new one.)

My corset has a busk. It is kind of a temp, until I get mine made. It gives me the right topline, and it is pretty. :)

Yup. I can see how your internal organs could be displaced..and how the body would conform to the corset shape. And while we were smaller then, if you were corsetted by 3-4 yrs old, I can see how your waist would be twincy..
