Confederate Monuments

View attachment 181104 Louisa, VA. Traveling through the South; recording Confederate monuments as tintypes. Would be grateful for your reactions and feedback about the images.

larreynaga,

It might be a good idea to keep these pics on one thread and avoid confusion.

Why not post them on your original Confederate Monuments thread? Would be easier for the forum membership to view them and keep track.

Good pic of a monument that is not like the "usual" monuments one might see, by-the-way.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

Are you doing this all at once? That's quite a project to undertake.
There are approximately 700 Confederate monuments across the South. My plan is to shoot 50 to 60. I started last November, and expect to be done making photos by mid-April. I already have a gallery show scheduled in New York City for November, and trying to find a Southern venue. I'm selecting monuments that are of common soldiers, rather than of politicians or generals. I'm also selecting monuments that go beyond the typical, mass produced statue of a soldier at parade rest

Good suggestion. I will. Thanks!

Is there going to be catalog for your show? If so, can we, as CWT members have a link (eventually) to buy it? Excellent photos and am enjoying them. James N. my thoughts exactly, referring to your first post.

Is this the statue to which you're referring?
Yes, although in the case of this one I like it in color with the white statue contrasting with the dark gray courthouse behind it.

That guy is carrying a trapdoor.
Not sure what you mean.
The guy in your OP pic. He's carrying a post war Trapdoor rifle.
Yes, I've been through Virginia already. I'll start posting some of what I have.
The absolute worst example of this I ever saw was indeed in Monterrey, Virginia near the border with West Virginia:

Supposedly the Italian marble company that supplied this was told he should be armed with an Enfield - and so he is!
