Since the frenetic, frantic, furious onset of cancel culture and monument destruction, I have maintained one basic opinion: it is not just about the Confederacy. Confederate monuments are just low hanging fruit, easy to pick. Most people will not stick their necks out for these particular monuments.

There was an idea that the assault on history would cease once the "uncomfortable" plaques and statues were removed. And tragically, many alleged history lovers fell victim to this mindset. Yet, just like the French Revolution did not cease with the monarch's fate at the guillotine, so to the assault on history has not concluded with the obliteration of public remembrances of the vanquished Confederacy.

Thomas Jefferson was recently removed in New York City. And now Mount Rushmore is being targeted.

My great-grandfather carved Mount Rushmore on sacred land. Now is the time to remove it.
