So here is my question, note the figure on the right representing infantry. Now note how he is holding his rifle, with the thumb pointing downward and the hand down about halfway down the stock of the rifle. Now think about all the other mouments where normally the soldier is grasping the rifle near the end of the barrel, and placed so that the thumb is on top of the hand- similar to how you would normally hold a walking stick. What is the significance of the placement of his hand in this manner? I have my own thoughts, which are that this placement is in perfect position to raise the rifle above the head and with the shouder stock in the air, a common sign of surrender-is he preparing to possibily surrender?

Your thoughts??
