Event Battle of First Manassas / First Bull Run

Provenance Worn by Kit Walthall of the 13th Virginia Infantry who died in the battle of First Manassas.

[Records indicate that a Christopher Walthall served with the 13 Virginia Infantry and is included in the 1864 roster, so he was not killed at Manassas. Also, the 13th Virginia Infantry, though at First Manassas, was not engaged.]

Provenance Havelock worn by Lewis H. Stern, Co. E, 30th Virginia Infantry, and Co. F, 24th Virginia Cavalry. Stern enlisted in April of 1861, aged fourteen years and ten months. He surrendered at Appomattox.

Provenance Havelock given by W.H. Kirkpatrick, a Georgia soldier, to Mrs. Dowden in appreciation of food she had given him.

"During the war W. H. Kirkpatrick, a Georgia soldier, was given something to eat by Mrs. Dowden and as a token of appreciation he gave her a cotton sun cap."

Provenance Lt. Col. Bradfute Warwick wore this havelock during the war. He commanded the 4th Texas Infantry. Warwick was mortally wounded during the Battle at Gaines' Mill on June 27, 1862

Provenance Waterproofed canvas havelock of John Henry Vest of Louisa County, Virginia. Vest was a member of the 1st Regiment Virginia Artillery, Richmond Howitzers.

Provenance Linen havelock worn by Dr. William Hay during his ministration as a surgeon at the Staunton Hospital. Many of the wounded were in tents on the grounds of the Deaf and Blind Institution. Possibly used in going from tent to tent under the hot summer sun.

Thank you for posting this item of history! I'm a UDC member, descendent of Brigadier General William Feimster Oliver and engaged to Richard Lee Dobie IV. This is the 1st bit of family history I've discovered on Lt. Dobie and can hardly wait to share tomorrow!

Has anyone found what Regiment this individual served in? I have found a W. H. Kirkpatick in Mell Rifles Co D Cobbs Legion. This unit was formed after Manassas, if this individual and unit ID is correct.
