Confederate Cast I recovered...

While most CW enthusiast are out visiting Battlefields this summer, I'm still out digging in this heat. Of course on private property and all. Latest and best finds so far this summer are this Confederate Cast I. Out of the Battle of Nashville. Plus the Yankee lead I found around it. This button is beautiful and one could wear it today.

Johnny that cast I is awesome and it cleaned up real nice! Congratulations on another cool find.

Question for you in regards to the find. Is this a battle area or campsite where it was found?

Very nice finds.... found a couple Cast Block-I's a number of years ago near Petersburg Va... a bit unusual to find many of them around in the Eastern Theater.... ponderings if they might have came this way with some of the Tennessee boys that were transferred over to the ANV from out West.......

A nice Williams Cleaner type-III..... equally interesting that we frequently find these in unfired condition... lots of speculation and mutterings reporting that the soldiers frequently didn't like them... inaccurate and didn't do as well taking out the barrel fouling as they were designed to do.... When the soldier pulled out that identifiable blue paper wrapped Williams... seems plenty got "lost" or tossed over the shoulder instead of bothering to load and fire it...

Great find!

However, be careful when cleaning those things. I have been told a thousand times to never clean a relic of its "oxidation," or whatever it is called. I did the same thing you did to a button years ago and was chided for it in a very bad way by old timers and collectors. I'm not saying you are wrong or that I was wrong. I'm just passing the info along to you as it was done to me -- just in a nicer way, I hope.
