Sorry, I know this is some serious thread necromancy but I'd like to chime in that the 1st Lieutenant (officer on the right) is my ancestor John McDonald. He was Company K's First Sergeant at the start of the war, served with the company throughout the war except for a brief period in Washington recovering from wounds, and would retire from those wounds in 1868 as a Captain.
