Col. John W. Kimball's "Prince"

In 1862, when appointed Col. of the 53rd MVI, John W. Kimball was presented equipment and the fine 4-year-old "Prince," by 43 leading citizens of his native Fitchburg, Mass. He had this photo taken at the time of the Regimental Reunion in 1887, and a copy was presented to every man in his command.

Kimball (1828-1910) went to war as Captain of the Fitchburg Fusiliers (see: https://civilwartalk.com/threads/fi...ching-off-to-war-in-1861.146142/#post-1818880); became Lt. Col. of the 15th Mass. Vols., and Col. of the 53rd Mass. Vols., Discharged as a brevet Brigadier General.
