Hello everybody, I was wondering if someone might be able to post a picture of Col. John Funkhouser, the commander of the 98th Illinois Mounted Infantry, part of Wilder's Lightning Brigade? This is Col. John Wilder, the brigade commander:
Civil War; Union.commanders- Col.Wilder,John..jpg
And I already have pictures of the other three regimental commanders besides Funkhouser. They were
Col. Abram Miller, 72nd Indiana Mounted Infantry
Civil War; Union.commanders- Col.Miller,Abram.of.72nd.Indiana.Mtd.Inf..jpg

below is Col. Milton Stapp Robinson, 75th Indiana Mounted Infantry
Civil War; Union.commanders- Col.Robinson,Milton.of.75th.Indiana.Mtd.Inf..jpg

and this is Col. Smith Atkins of the 92nd Illinois Mounted Infantry
Civil War; Union.commanders- Col.Atkins,Smith.of.92nd.Illinois.Mounted.Inf...jpg

A great deal of thanks to whomever can provide a picture of Col. Funkhouser to complete the Wilder's Lightning Brigade "collection".

Coming to this very late... but JJ Funkhouser was my great great grandfather. Here is a picture of him in front of his tent (Spanish American War, I believe) - I don't have any photos of his civil war days.

Decided to look up John J. Funkhouser online. Found this article from Findagrave (which has become a go-to source for finding info about the more obscure officers of the war). Says he died in 1894 and so couldn't have fought in the Spanish-American War. Maybe this is another member of the family or relative. It does seem like a rather familiar photo.

This photo shows brothers Leroy, David, Royal and Cicero Fancher of the 123rd Illinois Mounted Infantry, part of Wilder's Lightning Brigade. (Susan Lynn Fancher Collection)

I think there is a chance that the picture is of Funkhouser. You're right that it couldn't be span am as that happened after his death but he looks the age of nearly 60 and the tunic is the M1895 with colonel's boards on it. Which he was. It seems like if it is, the picture was taken very shortly before his death. It's not a perfect deduction but it closes the time gap.
