Why is he a COL? A claim is made that he was in the CSA Army. Was he?
His son was a CSA general.

Anyone know about this man?

Read as obiter somewhere, that he was an officer in the militia. Presumably, this role was as a Colonel in the prewar South Carolina militia. Given his age (71 years) at the start of the war, doubt that he saw any active service during the Civil War. Best guess is that he more likely carried out an administrative or organizational role behind-the-scenes as a prominent member in his local community, during the conflict years. (Records seem scant on this person, especially for the wartime period).
