The quarters of the period are called seated liberty and were the design from 1838- 1891 before changing to the barber style. They'd look something like this given the date and multiple variation throughout its use. This is a dollar version but the designs are the same.

It might be that JH1961's father dug it, and Charlie Harris photographed it for one of his books. He used to set up at the shows with his camera. He photographed a few relics that I dug, but none ever made it into the books.
