Just thought I would throw this out there. Codorus State Park's Lake Marburg is down a good 12 feet or so exposing foundations, bridge, Sterner's swimming pool and roadbeds. Lake was man made in the 60s. My wife and I have been using historic aerial pictures and finding the old farmstead locations as the water level drops. Nice park and good hiking if you are in the Gettysburg area. Its located just south of Hanover.

Thanks for the info, EJ!

Having spent two years at Penn State's Mont Alto campus for forestry, I am familiar with the area, and I've been to Codorus. It's a really nice park. I'd like to see pics of what the lake's lower level has revealed!

Will do. Heading out this afternoon. I take some pics. Most farmsteads are just rock piles as they did a through job of tearing everything down. Bridge is intact as are alot of the roads. Park sells a three dvd set of narrated pics of before during and after the lake filled.

I love the before-and-afters. We have a lake not far from my house, Lake Ontelaunee, that was formed when they built a dam for a water supply for the city of Reading in the 1950s. I've seen pictures and talked to folks from the area about "what lies beneath" the water. It's both creepy and fascinating!

Looking forward to pics!

For whatever reason this topic interests me as well. Not sure exactly why though, lol. I did some digging on Lake Ontelaunee. Got a good topo map from 1938 and no lake. Got another from 44 and lake is there. Oldest aerial I have is from 1947 and lake is there. By the looks of the 38 topo there could be some good infrastructure still under the lake, numerous bridges, and topo says many roads were paved. The Lincoln School was there and the town of Evansville. Looks like Evansville was located where modern day West Shore Dr meets the lake. Where it meets the lake just looks like a dirt field road now. Took several pics yesterday and working on posting them now.
