Thanks for your welcome guys. I own this relic and I expect that you tell me more about it.

Okay, at first glance there are some things I really like and a few things I dislike. I can't go into those areas in detail, I just don't have the time. Based on what I'm seeing from an over all perspective, you have a kepi worthy of further expert opinions, and I'm pretty sure you will be happy with the results. On the side of caution, there are many CW period and post war examples that could be easily altered to look like your kepi so get other opinions. For what it is worth and again use extreme caution, I found this link.

Again, just because it looks like the example in the auction doesn't mean either one is 100% correct.

The Kepi/Cap material and design is similar to what some of Cobbs Legion originally used.... however the basic design and trim features was also a rather popular period style with many other militia and early war regiments as well.... also assorted military academy's.... Without solid history provenance it would be quite difficult to confirm and nail it down to Cobb's Legion issue or use...

Back marks on the buttons would also be helpful.

Poster mentioned button back marks of W.G.Mintzer / Phild. They were in operation from roughly 1858-1870 era. Many or most of their buttons were actually made under contract by Steel & Johnson of Waterbury Conn. Most probable a pre-war era manufactured state button... Common to find on pre and early war goods....

Oh, forgot that he mention it.... more starbucks. :smile coffee:

The buttons are of a very small diameter (14.4 mm). The figure is standing on the left side.
If I refer to "Ridgeway Reference Archive", they were probably made by Steele & Johnson ca 1860.
