Some regiments I'm interested in seeing: The 1st Minnesota c. 1863, 3rd Maine, c. 1864, 37th Alabama, c. 1864, 7th Illinois, c. 1864, & 17th Connecticut, c. 1864

I recommend Jeff Dugdale of this forum. He has written numerous books concerning Confederate uniforms. He has researched the records to find supply, requistions, etc. I have the book on Texas Confederate uniforms etc. He has a vast collection & has people model the uniforms he writes about. Highly recommended.

Regiments were not issued clothes or equipment.

Individual soldiers were issued shoes & clothing on a regular schedule.

Before the March to the Sea the members of Sherman's army group were issued shoes & clothes. Any traps or weapons that required attention were replaced. At Savannah, the army group received a complete refit from the ships waiting off shore.

The question you ask has a simple by regulation answer & highly variable dependent on a host of conditions answer.

Only site that I know has complete records for regimental clothing distribution is one for Delaware Civil War units, but that's not one of your list...

In his journal, Abner Small (3rd Maine) relates that he was among the last to show up for the initial muster-in; therefore the clothing that he was issued was what no one else wanted. He writes that his shirt was so large that the officer in charge joked that he (Small) could also fit his sweetheart in it--and no one would be the wiser!
