Found this interesting image of a group of men of the Clinch Rifles.

Some of the men are wearing ribbons of some sort.

Soldier's relief organization ?

I participated in a long thread on the Clinch Rifles during which we were pretty sure we had identified the keeper of a diary in one photo by the small book in his hand. We figured out his name and went from there. It was a lot of fun. The diary was purchased originally by someone in Europe and he sold it to a member here associated with a museum in Georgia.

Interesting photo. Some appear to be civilians.

Is this the photo?

Clinch Rifles - Co A, 5th Ga. 2.JPG

It took us a while to work out which company he was in and process of elimination got us his name. Then we compared a known photo of the diarist, taken much later in life, and it matched up well with the young soldier seated and writing. The diary was the right size too, so we believed it was no doubt the man in the photo. One of the funniest parts was that he had been entrusted with a trunk (or two) which had items it it that the company needed, like maybe pots and pans, etc. He had to schlepp that trunk all over the deep South from train station to train station. At one point it was necessary to get off the train somewhere on, I think the Alabama coast, and take a boat a few miles to the next station. Civilians and ladies along for the ride, all prior to the Battle of Shiloh.

The Clinch Rifles were Company A, 5th Georgia Infantry. Here is another photo of the Clinch Rifles in the Library of Congress Collections:

@Kurt G figure brings this to life, ]The Clinch Rifles became Co. A of the 5th Georgia and wore distinctive green uniforms."
