The Amite County Historical Society (Mississippi) published a few 19th century notices from a local newspaper, The Woodville Republican in their January 2014 newsletter. I enjoyed this one and thought some of you might as well:

1876 - During the centennial exhibition, samples of air from various parts of the grounds were bottled up for examination in 1976, with a view to determine whether the earth's atmosphere is undergoing a change.

I found it interesting that air samples were placed in a time capsule during 1876, with the intent to be examined 100 years into the future during the year 1976.

We sometimes forget the sophistication of our ancestors.
