Here we have the Bold Confederate officer at the scene of John C. Pemberton's surrender of Vicksburg to Ulysses S. Grant, July 3, 1863. This was taken by my father or stepmother in 1960 as can be made out on its border. Even then I realized a "proper" officer needed, in addition to a souvenir Confederate gray hat, a pair of binoculars, the subject of which is my latest thread: http://civilwartalk.com/threads/civil-war-era-binoculars.125670/#post-1356521 ; unfortunately, I no longer have the pair I'm wearing in the picture!
