Since today's the anniversary of the first assault on "Fortress Vicksburg" in 1863 I thought Throwback Thursday could revisit the scene of one of the battles of the Vicksburg Campaign, Champion's Hill, reenacted here in May 1983. Above, General U. S. Grant (portrayed by my friend Marty Brazil of Biloxi, Mississippi) makes a personal mounted reconnaissance at the start of the battle, accompanied by his faithful aide-de-camp (Yours Truly) and a color bearer on foot just behind and above him. Below, while Grant plays it safe at the edge of the treeline the intrepid aide and color bearer follow the Federal cavalry and infantry towards the Rebel-held hilltop through the fog and misting rain. Anyone else having (preferably) old Civil War-related photos, mementoes, or memorabilia from reenactments, living history or other events or vacation or other travel that they would like to share with us is welcome and encouraged to post them here in this weekly thread!
